Humans of UTSA Critique

In Veronica's first photo, I really like that the photo was taken with an open frame. This helps her subject stand out a lot more rather than it being like any other photo of a person. I like that she chose to keep the UTSA flags in the picture rather than cropping them out because even though I know they aren't the same color they help balance the photo out which is also known as asymmetrical balance. I definitely see a rule of thirds which makes the photo seem "professional' and more enjoyable.

In Veronica’s second photo I see a frame within a frame which also helps her subject stand out. If there was anything I would fix about this photo it would be to maybe have a little more of the woman’s torso inside the photo because I feel like there is not enough of her in the photo especially with the sky space on top. Overall I like the edit of the photo the colors really stand out nicely, the open frame, and although she isn’t quite centered nor is the photo really in the rule of thirds category I still like the woman’s position in the photo.

 Veronica’s third photo is simple yet it says so much. I really like how the subject stands out in this photo because of the background. This photo was taken in really good lighting because you can see the details of this man, I feel like if it would have been taken in a shadow or something that was to lit or exposed it wouldn’t have come out so nice. I also like that there are converging lines in the background and I like how it isn’t straight either. To some people it might drive them crazy that this wasn’t taken straight on however I think it is awesome.

 In the fourth photo I feel like there is a frame within a frame and it is because of the lighting. Her immediate background is the shade and how the tables and trees and the poles are all inside the shade yet in the very back there is this light that doesn’t really affect the subject (the girl) other than the small portion that is on her left cheekbone. I feel like the way this photo was taken fits perfectly with her emotion. She isn’t to expressed nor is she not expressed at all, she’s has balanced emotions. I feel there is an asymmetrical balance as well because of the yellow on her shirt, the light from the background and the light on the top of the tree that’s above her.

In Veronica’s fifth photo I really like that the two people are dressed similar as in professional looking and how they both have the same expression on their faces. The only thing that I would change about this photo is where they were standing I would have tried to get the entire photo in the shade or in a well lit area so that you could see their details and faces a little better. This is easier to say rather than do because I feel like maybe they were going somewhere (how they dressed and because they were walking together) like a meeting and Veronica didn’t have to much time to waste with them.  One other thing I might have tried was cropping it in just a little bit and not leaving the frame so open but not to closed either.

In Veronica’s last photo I really like how everything behind her isn’t clear because it helps you focus in on the woman. I love her expression because before even looking at her photo and what her response was to Veronica’s question you can see determination and the confidence in her smile. You can tell she is doing great things in life because of the way she presents herself. I mentioned to Veronica about maybe cropping the photo but then I realized that the woman in the photo wouldn’t have stood out so well, you wouldn’t be able to focus on just her because there would be more details that you would try and concentrate on. The rule of thirds is present in this photo because of the gray poles to the left and right of the subject and it compliments the photo nicely.

Overall these were very nice photo, great camera by the way. Good job, Veronica!
